FOCP says that the support and excitement that they see from the community is a highlight of every year.

“It’s always very heartwarming, because people are obviously having a lot of fun running up the mountain and then sliding back down,” said Holly Dodge of FOCP. “But it’s also really heartwarming to hear how excited people are knowing they raised funds for our programs.”

The fundraiser has evolved since its inception over a decade ago.

Originally held at Bresnan Arena at MSU, the fundraiser was moved to Mount Kato in 2021 due to Covid.

Since then, teams have braved the cold and climbed the mountain, and the nonprofit says that they couldn’t be more thankful for the support.

“This year, we had 27 teams, and all those teams came in and they did a lot of fundraising for FOCP and the Backpack Food Program,” said Dodge. “We had a really successful day, and those funds are getting kind of right near that benchmark that they always hit every year.”

The mission of FOCP is to engage the community in solving youth hunger. The locally funded non-profit has a variety of hunger relief programs serving K-12 youth in the greater Mankato area.
